Of all Space Marine Chapters, none are colder or more robotic than the Iron Hands, originally designated the 10th Legion, or the Iron 10th. In their gunmetal and black armour, these flesh spare warriors march remorselessly towards the enemy, their heavily augmented bodies soaking up tirades of fire that would cut down even ‘normal’ Space Marines. Their code is that the flesh is weak, and weakness is truly an anathema. More than any other Chapter, they despise weakness, seeing it as a personal failing that must be cut away in order to improve oneself. This particular are the sons of Medusa, a brutal, grey world, wracked by volcanism, where all those who live do so in massive nomadic vehicles. They take their name from their Primarch, Ferrus Manus, who had two hands of living metal, able to self repair if damaged by a mechanism completely unknown to the wider Imperium. To honour their name, when a young Scout is accepted as a full Iron Hand battle brother, his left hand is removed and replaced with a superior bionic replacement. This is inevitably the first in a long line of enhancements the Space Marine will receive over the long course of his life. The Iron Hands maintain notably close links to the Adeptus Mechanicus, since they share much of that secretive organisation’s philosophy of replacing the weak, primitive flesh of one’s body with pristine, flawless metal. Where normally, a Space Marine will only accept bionic augmentation when he is wounded severely in battle, if he loses a limb, for instance, the Iron Hands replace even healthy and hale parts of their body, seeing this as the only true path to purity and strength. The Chapter is cold, calculating, and precise, preferring to fight alone rather than rely on any other Imperial troops, particularly those of the Astra Militarum. They are a highly efficient military machine who have won countless victories over the millennia, but they prefer to stand alone rather than being tainted by the weakness of unaugmented humans or even many of their brother Space Marine chapters. 
The Iron Hands, as a natural extension of their philosophy of trusting the machine more than the flesh, maintain a truly enormous selection of vehicles, more so than maybe any other Chapter. All vehicles are viewed as sacred to these warriors, they are able to field legions of Predators, Repulsors, and even a huge number of Land Raiders, the hugely tough and advanced assault tanks that are the premier vehicle of the Astartes. In particular, though, this chapter field Dreadnaughts in great numbers. Unusually, many Dreadnaughts also participate in the Clan Councils and strategy sessions. These walking sarcophagi are usually revered by the Space Marines, but nowhere more so than in the Iron Hands, who view them as the ultimate ascension of metal over flesh.
