Facing the upstart Roman Republic during the Punic Wars of the 3rd and 2nd centuries BC, the forces of the Carthaginian empire were led by great generals, primarily of the Barcid family. The most famous and effective of these men was Hannibal Barca, who instilled fear and respect into Carthage’s Roman foes through his cunning and tactical prowess.
